The Story Part 5

From December 2006 to May 3008 is 17 months. During those 17 months the Drs said my kidney funtion had gone from about 40% to about 12%.  Amazing how fast it changed in 17 months while your doing everything the medical people tell you to do compared to how it took 52 years to go from 100% to 40%.  But even as recent as March and April of 2008, my Dr was telling me that dialysis was probably a year away, but I would need it eventually. There are several different types of dialysis, you can read more about it by following the link at the side over there——->

Anyways, to prepare for that eventuallity, I was told I needed to have surgery to create what they call vascular access and they what they call a fistula. That is what the first two pictures  are from. I was told it would keep me out of work for two weeks. The operation was on May 23rd of 2008.

The Story Part 4

I spent several weeks in the hospital from December 06 to January 07. But when I got out I figured things were “ok”. Not great, but “ok”. I was able to go back to work, and since at the time I owned my own IT/Computer repair shop. I had to start taking medicine every day, which I didn’t like and I had to go see the kidney specialist every month or so, and I was suppose to start watching what I ate more, for instance cut down on salt/sodium which increases your blood pressure but outside of that and taking the meds and spending the money on the specialists life was going along as usual. Being in kidney failure wasn’t such a big deal after all I thought.

The Story Part 3

It’s a strange feeling going to bed in your own bed and waking up in a hospital bed. It’s even stranger to find out three days had passed.  I can’t say what went on during those three days but from what I’ve been told I’m glad I can’t remember.

Apparently while I was hospitalized they ran every kind of test imaginable on me. I can’t exactly remember when, I think it was the day after I became conscious again, the Drs told me I had Acute Renal Failure. I had about 40% of my kidney function.  I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure.  The two go hand in hand a lot of the time. I had always had my physical every two years as recommended so I was shocked.

Donations

I have worked for almost 40 years of my life. One of the hardest things in the world for me is to ask others to help me financially, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
I have applied for disability but it can take up to 6 months to get it, and that’s if your approved. The majority of cases are not approved at first and need to be appealed. We are in the process adn waiting ………
Sadly our mortgage company, our utilites, our medical people won’t wait till the disability is approved or disapproved.
If you can find it in the kindness of your heart to help us in our time of need,we would be forever grateful.

The Story Part 2

It seems I had had a reaction to the Predisone I had been prescribed. The Drs called it Acute Steroidal Psychosis. In laymen terms, I had lost my mind. I have 3 days of my live that I have no recollection of. Not a pleasant realization. The stories I have been told about those three days are literally unbelievable! Apparently I had moments of being lucid, but for the most part, I was out of my mind. A few examples: I told my wife that Michael Jackson was coming to dinner ,but he wasn’t bringing Billy Jean. One of my daughters was visiting me. I apparently told everyone who was there that this girl was following me and I didn’t know who she was. I could go on and on. Actually, I can’t, all these stories were related to me as I have no memory of any of it.

The Story- Part 1

December 2006 my life was to change forever. I was a relatively healthy man in my early 50s. I was 2.5 years into living my dream, running my own IT Computer repair and service shop. After 2 and 1/2 years of working 6 days a week 9-10 hours a day, I was finally making a profit. One of my computers at home had developed a problem, and I was carrying it in from my car to work on it. As I was going through the back room to the hall to the front of my shop, I tripped on something and fell. It was no big deal, I had knocked over a chair that had some parts that I was going to throw away on it and they fell on me. Looking down I saw I had a cut and was bleeding. Again, I thought no big deal, I’ll put a bandaid on it and will be fine. I called my wife to tell her what happened. She insisted I go to my Dr and have it checked out. I went to my Dr and it turned out I needed a couple of stitches. I also had cracked two ribs. A few days later I went to the Emergency Room because I was having trouble breathing due to a combination of the cracked ribs and OCPD. The Drs gave me a prescription of steroids. After a few days I was feeling out of it, being very lethargic and fuzzy in my thinking. I thought it was just a combination of being under the weather and the drugs I had been prescribed. Turns out I was wrong. Most of our family , our kids and some of our other relatives and friends had gathered to visit and exchange gifts on Saturday December 23rd 2006. I semi remeber eating dinner w ishing family Merry Christmas and saying goodbye to most, and going to bed. I woke up 3 days later in the hospital.
